About Educational Hiking
One Ocean Nature Conservation Centre is located on an island just 15 minutes of the shore of Kuala Abai Beach at Kota Belud, Sabah. It is home to birds that you don't often see. Here's a list of birds that you can possibly see at our Centre!
Educational Hiking is more towards learning while hiking. Most people would just hike and enjoy the view along the way, but have u ever encounter a beautiful flower or a plant and asked "What is the name of this plant?", "Where does this normally grow?", "is it poisonous?". Well rest assured, we got you covered. Our hiking team will guide you through a short yet impactful hike and learn more about the forest so that you can teach others as well. You will learn:
1) Species of trees
2) Plants that grow on the island
3) Insects and animals we have at our centre
4) How nature works together with other living organisms
Don't worry, While you are hiking you can ask questions along the way and our team will try our best to answer them. There are limitless things to see and learn. So are you ready?
Location / How to get here
The Closest town to our Conservation Centre is at Jetty Lama Kastam, Kuala Abai. which is located at Kota Belud (District in Sabah) it is accessible by land from cities such as Kota Kinabalu.
🚐 Buses can be taken to Kota Belud (Drop off at Kota Belud bus station) from Kota Kinabalu bus station (infront of Dreamtel Hotel). You have to look for the Kota Belud Sign/Ask for the Kota Belud bus from the people around the bus station. The sign boards will indicate where the bus will take you, some sign boards might say Keningau, Kudat, Kota Marudu, etc. But the sign you are looking for is to Kota Belud. The Price of the bus will be between RM 20-30/person.
⚠️Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT take a Taxi. They might charge you for an insane price which is unreasonable. Furthermore, there is a chance they will scam you as well. Take a bus, it's better. (Advice from a local)
⚠️If you really need a private transport to directly take you to our Centre, contact us. We got'chu.
🚗Great! You are now at Kota Belud bus station. Now, you have to take a Maxim/GRAB car (A local transportation app you can download from the Play Store) to Jetty Kastam Lama. The price for the ride will vary depending on the time at which you arrive.
🛶Once you have arrived to Kuala Abai Beach, Our team will pick you up and give you a 15 minute boat ride to our Conservation Centre which is located at Usukan Island. The boat fee will be USD $8.00 only.
